A Variety of Street Performances
and Side Events

Jongno District in Seoul will host the "Come to Daehangno! Car-Free Street" event on Friday and Saturday, June 27 and 28, the last weekend of June, in Daehangno. The event is organized in collaboration with theater troupes and related organizations that are primarily active in Daehangno, aiming to give all citizens the opportunity to experience pure performing arts up close and to revitalize the local commercial district.

This month’s event, organized by the Jongno Theater Association, will be held under the theme "Performing Arts Festival: Into the Citizens." It will feature a variety of performances and citizen experience programs that anyone can enjoy on the street, rather than on a traditional stage.

The opening ceremony will take place on June 27 at Marronnier Park from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. It will begin with a parade by a professional bagpipe ensemble, followed by congratulatory speeches from distinguished guests and a Korean traditional music crossover performance by the singer "Haebaragi" and Gyeonggi folk singer Jeon Youngrang.

The main event will be held on June 28 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. along a 350-meter section of Daehangno’s main street (from Exit 1 of Hyehwa Station to the entrance of Seoul National University Hospital). On the main stage in front of Hyehwa Station Exit 1, visitors can enjoy the fusion musical "Charlie’s Magic Factory," the dance drama "Forced Marriage," and a performance by the singer "Haebaragi."

On the stage in front of Olive Young Daehangno branch, there will be street performances including magic, circus acts, and mime. In front of Marronnier Park, an interactive program will be held where aspiring musical actors and citizens can participate together.

A variety of hands-on programs are also prepared, such as a K-tightrope performance by the JI Art Troupe, a Bubble Cinema experience, and Charlie’s Suitcase Mime. There will also be a range of side events, including dessert cafes, craft workshop booths, and small-scale table theater performances.

Meanwhile, on the main event day of June 28, the 350-meter section of Daehangno’s main street will be closed to vehicles from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. to prevent safety accidents.

Jung Moonheon, Mayor of Jongno District, stated, “You can enjoy the car-free street event on the last weekend of every month in August, September, and October as well. I recommend that all citizens who come out for a weekend outing take the opportunity to enjoy high-quality street performances and side events, and create special memories.”
