Doosan Robotics announced on the 23rd that it will participate in 'Automatica 2025' held in Munich, Germany, where it will showcase a wide range of AI-based intelligent robot solutions.
'Automatica' is Europe's largest exhibition for robotics and automation technology solutions, taking place from June 24 to 27. Companies specializing in robotics, machine vision, and digital solutions participate to present the latest technologies and trends. This year, the event is themed 'Smart Automation and Robotics,' with leading global robotics companies such as Doosan Robotics, Universal Robots, Techman, and Fanuc in attendance.
In April, Doosan Robotics declared its transition from a hardware-focused business to 'intelligent robot solutions' that integrate collaborative robot hardware, software, and artificial intelligence (AI) functions through AI innovation. Accordingly, the company set the theme for this exhibition as 'AI Powered Robot Solution,' dividing its booth into two sections: 'Automation to Reality,' which focuses on AI-based next-generation automation technologies, and 'Automation in Action,' which highlights proven commercial automation capabilities.
In the 'Automation to Reality' section, the company will present solutions such as voice-based robot solutions (Voice to Real), parts handling, automotive door sanding, exterior inspection, barista solutions, and simulation-based real-time motion control technology (Sim to Real).
A particularly notable solution is 'Voice to Real,' co-developed with Amazon Web Services (AWS). This is an upgraded version of the 'Mixmaster Moody' showcased at CES 2024 in January of last year. A collaborative robot equipped with a 3D vision camera uses voice recognition and large language model (LLM) technology to understand the context and intent within users' everyday language and automatically perform tasks.
The automotive parts handling solution combines three collaborative robots with vision technology to recognize objects without prior learning and perform complex, precise tasks with optimal movement paths. This solution incorporates 'Multi-Arm simultaneous control technology,' which enables the simultaneous control of multiple robotic arms.
The automotive door sanding solution utilizes 3D vision and AI, allowing the collaborative robot to autonomously determine its path and finish surfaces with complex shapes. The exterior inspection solution uses a 3D scanner to inspect automotive exteriors in real time, while the barista solution leverages AI to recommend and serve beverages based on customer order experiences.
'Sim to Real' is a real-time motion control technology developed by Doosan Robotics using Nvidia's virtual simulation platform, CuRobo. As Doosan Robotics' collaborative robots are highly compatible with Nvidia's simulation platform, the company plans to expand its application to customers and partners in the future.
In the 'Automation in Action' section, solutions are presented according to the manufacturing process sequence, including parts welding, machine tending (loading workpieces and unloading finished products), parts assembly, quality inspection, and palletizing.
These solutions were co-developed and commercialized with European partners, and have been recognized for their excellence in commercial viability and safety in the local market. As a result, they have been adopted and are being utilized by global clients such as General Motors (GM), Heineken, Danone, and Royal Mail.
A Doosan Robotics representative stated, "This exhibition is our first participation since declaring our transition to an intelligent robot solutions company, and it offers a glimpse into the future direction Doosan Robotics aims to pursue. We will continue to do our best to provide AI-based, customer-oriented robot solutions."
