Scholarships for Descendants of War Veterans
Support for Vocational Training School with KOICA
"Honoring the Noble Sacrifice of Veterans"
LG Electronics is supporting surviving war veterans and their descendants around the world, including in Ethiopia, Thailand, and the United States, by providing scholarships and daily necessities to help them achieve self-reliance.
On the 23rd, LG Electronics announced that it recently delivered Teff, a staple food in Ethiopia, along with daily necessities and living expenses, to 54 surviving veterans in Ethiopia, the only African country that participated in the Korean War.
Since 2013, LG Electronics has been providing scholarships to about 230 descendants of veterans facing economic hardship. In particular, LG Electronics has been actively engaged in social contribution activities to help young people in Ethiopia become self-reliant. The company has been operating the 'LG-KOICA Hope Vocational Training School' in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, which was established in 2014 in cooperation with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). This school offers free technical education in IT (Information Technology) and electrical and electronic fields, and also provides lunch and shuttle buses to help students focus more on their studies.

To help graduates, including descendants of veterans, grow into healthy members of society, the school also supports them in finding employment or starting their own businesses. So far, all 541 graduates of the LG-KOICA Hope Vocational Training School have succeeded in finding jobs or starting businesses, and about 70 more students are expected to graduate this year.
LG Electronics' Tennessee manufacturing subsidiary, in cooperation with the Korean Association of Knoxville, Tennessee, recently donated washers and dryers to households of Korean War veterans. Since 2020, the company has supported about 30 veteran households in Tennessee with home appliances and donations.
LG Electronics' Thailand subsidiary donated air conditioners to a veteran housing support project last year, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Thailand and the Korean War Veterans Association of Thailand.
In Korea, the 'Life's Good' volunteer group, composed of employees who participate voluntarily, is carrying out social contribution activities using artificial intelligence (AI). Recently, the LG Electronics volunteer group used AI-based image restoration technology to recreate and deliver photographs of Korean War veterans from the Korean War Veterans Association in their youth. In addition, based on official data from the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, the company is developing an interactive AI chatbot that introduces overseas veterans from 12 countries, including the Netherlands, Denmark, and the Philippines, as well as the battles and operations in which they participated.
Yoon Dae-sik, Executive Vice President of External Relations at LG Electronics, said, "Through social contribution activities that combine technology and compassion, we will continue to remember the noble sacrifices and dedication of the veterans and express our gratitude."
