Special Prosecutor Team to Appear for the First Time at Yoon's Insurrection Trial Tomorrow... Park Eoksoo to Maintain Prosecution

For the first time, a deputy special prosecutor will appear in court to maintain the prosecution during the eighth trial of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, who is facing charges of being the ringleader of an insurrection and abuse of power.

On June 22, the special investigation team for the insurrection case announced to the media, "At the trial scheduled for June 23, Deputy Special Prosecutor Park Eoksoo will attend and be responsible for maintaining the prosecution." In accordance with the Special Prosecutor Act, all cases, including the insurrection ringleader charges against former President Yoon, which were indicted by the Emergency Martial Law Special Investigation Headquarters of the prosecution, were transferred to the special prosecutor as of June 19. The upcoming trial, which will be held at 10:15 a.m. on June 23 under the jurisdiction of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 25 (Presiding Judge Ji Guyoun), will be the first since Special Prosecutor Jo Eunseok officially took over the case from the prosecution on June 18 after launching the investigation.


For the hearing on the arrest warrant related to the first case indicted by Special Prosecutor Jo?against former Defense Minister Kim Yonghyun, who is charged with obstruction of official duties by fraudulent means and instigation of evidence destruction?Deputy Special Prosecutor Kim Hyungsoo will appear in court. With the initial detention period for former Minister Kim, who has been indicted and detained on insurrection charges, set to expire on June 26, Special Prosecutor Jo filed additional charges against him on June 18 for obstruction of official duties by fraudulent means, among other offenses. The hearing to determine the necessity of Kim's continued detention will be held at 2:30 p.m. on June 23 in the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 34 (Presiding Judge Han Sungjin).
