Damaged Engine Parts and Black Box Records
"Lack of Proper Information Fuels Self-Investigation Criticism"
The Bereaved Families Council of the December 29 Muan Airport Jeju Air Passenger Plane Disaster held a press conference on the afternoon of the 21st on the 2nd floor of Muan International Airport.
The bereaved families of the December 29 Jeju Air passenger plane disaster have called for the disclosure of investigation materials by the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board (ARAIB) to ensure a fair investigation into the incident.
The Bereaved Families Council of the December 29 Muan Airport Jeju Air Passenger Plane Disaster held a press conference on the 2nd floor of Muan International Airport on the 21st, demanding that "the ARAIB must secure independence from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for a fair investigation and disclose information such as the damaged engine parts and black box records to the bereaved families."
The Council pointed out, "Regarding the crash of the Air India 787-8 Dreamliner that occurred on the 13th, the Indian government announced it would release an accident cause report within three months of the disaster." They added, "In contrast, the ARAIB, criticized for conducting a self-investigation, has yet to provide the bereaved families with proper information."
They further emphasized, "Indonesia and Ethiopia both disclose Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) data in their preliminary reports. Failing to disclose such data is an act of disregarding the bereaved families and concealing the truth."
Finally, they stated, "To ensure a thorough investigation, please guarantee the right for bereaved family-nominated investigators to participate and present their opinions." They stressed that "by uncovering the truth behind the deaths of 179 victims of this disaster, those responsible must be held accountable and measures must be implemented to prevent recurrence."
