National Policy Planning Committee: "Housing Stability Measures Should Focus on Housing Supply" Yonhap News

The National Policy Planning Committee, which serves as the transition team for the Lee Jaemyung administration, requested housing stability measures centered on housing supply during a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport briefing on June 20, 2025.

The committee also discussed support measures for housing aimed at young people, newlyweds, and the elderly, as well as strategies to foster advanced strategic industries such as autonomous vehicles and urban air mobility (UAM).

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport reported on strategies to establish growth hubs, including the 'Five Major Regions and Three Special Zones Development' for balanced national development and the creation of RE100 industrial complexes, where companies meet 100% of their energy needs with renewable energy, as ways to fulfill President Lee Jaemyung's campaign pledges.

The 'Five Major Regions (Capital Region, Southeast Region, Daegu-Gyeongbuk Region, Central Region, Honam Region) and Three Special Zones (Gangwon, Jeonbuk, Jeju)' initiative is a pledge to divide the country into five metropolitan regions and three special self-governing provinces to strengthen local autonomy and decentralization.

In addition, the committee discussed strengthening safety management, including measures against ground subsidence, and eco-friendly transitions in the land and transport industries to achieve carbon neutrality.

Lee Choonseok, head of the Economic Division 2 of the National Policy Planning Committee, stated, "The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport must establish practical strategies for balanced development as the main ministry responsible for this area," and urged, "Please formulate feasible balanced development policies to revitalize local regions that are marginalized or at risk of extinction."
