Yeosu City in South Jeolla Province (Mayor Chung Kimyung) announced on the 20th that it recently held a design competition jury committee for the main building annex expansion project and selected the joint proposal submitted by ISP Architects Co., Ltd. and Gil General Architects & Engineers Co., Ltd. as the final winning entry.

The jury, composed of seven members including architectural design experts and university professors, conducted a second-round presentation review of five shortlisted entries that passed the first stage. The winning design was highly praised for its harmonious integration with the existing city hall, which features traditional architectural styles, its unique spatial composition centered around a courtyard, and its clear separation of movement routes for visitors, pedestrians, and vehicles, prioritizing safety.

The Yeosu City Hall annex is planned to be constructed on the current city hall's rear parking lot, with a total project cost of 62.2 billion KRW. The building will have two underground floors, six above-ground floors, and a total floor area of 17,492 square meters, with the goal of opening in 2028. The city plans to proceed with basic and detailed designs and aims to begin construction in 2026.

Mayor Chung Kimyung stated, "Through the expansion and construction of the annex, we will further enhance the quality of administrative services for citizens," adding, "We will create an open, citizen-centered city hall that not only offers comfortable office space but also includes facilities for residents' convenience."
