The Water Quality Research Institute of the Gwangju Waterworks Headquarters has demonstrated its outstanding water quality analysis capabilities.

On June 20, Gwangju City announced that the Water Quality Research Institute of the Waterworks Headquarters participated in both the proficiency test organized by the National Institute of Environmental Research under the Ministry of Environment and the proficiency program operated by the internationally accredited proficiency testing organization (ERA) this year, receiving a 'Satisfactory' rating for all 18 items and being selected as an excellent institution for measurement and analysis capabilities.

The domestic proficiency test is conducted annually under the supervision of the National Institute of Environmental Research of the Ministry of Environment, in accordance with the Act on Testing and Inspection in the Environmental Field, to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.

The international proficiency test is a program in which testing and inspection institutions from around the world participate to evaluate the accuracy and precision of their test and inspection results. It involves analyzing unknown samples distributed by a proficiency testing organization certified under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/IEC 17043) and submitting the results for verification of testing and analysis capabilities.

In these domestic and international proficiency tests, the Water Quality Research Institute received satisfactory ratings for all 18 items across seven categories: one item in the field of drinking water microorganisms, five items for heavy metals, three items for disinfection by-products, four items for ions, two items for pesticides, and three items for organic and inorganic substances, thereby reaffirming its internationally recognized water quality analysis capabilities.

Jung Sookyeong, Director of the Water Quality Research Institute at Gwangju Waterworks Headquarters, stated, "We will continue to strengthen the analytical capabilities of drinking water testing institutions to enhance the reliability of measurement and analysis results," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure that citizens can safely drink tap water."
