'Reversing Policy from the Perspective of Youth' as the Theme
Buan County in North Jeolla Province will host the '2025 Buan Youth Forum' at the Buan Youth UP Center on June 24.
According to the county on June 20, this forum is organized under the theme 'Reversing Policy from the Perspective of Youth.' It is designed as a venue for young people to share the realities and concerns they have experienced while living in the region and to explore policies together for a more developed future for Buan.
In the first session, Kim Dongyoung, head of the Population and Youth Support Research Center at the Jeonbuk Institute, will give a lecture explaining the changes in the local community and response strategies resulting from the decline in the youth population.
There will also be a discussion on the appeal and potential that the young generation feels in local areas, as well as presentations of outstanding youth policy cases implemented both domestically and internationally. Participants will consider, together with youth, the future direction of Buan's youth policies.
In particular, the forum will emphasize that interest in and support for youth policies cannot be achieved by the efforts of local governments alone, and that an active role by the central government is necessary.
The second session will consist of young people active in various fields candidly sharing the real-life concerns and hopes they experience in their daily lives.
Participants will freely exchange opinions about 'the Buan they hope for' and work together to develop creative policy ideas that shift existing perspectives on local issues raised during the discussion.
This forum is significant in that it goes beyond simply gathering opinions, providing a practical opportunity for youth to directly participate and make their voices heard as agents and planners of regional change.
County Governor Kwon Ikhyun said, "To create a region where young people want to stay, it is most important to sincerely listen to their voices and reflect them in policy," adding, "I hope this forum becomes a valuable opportunity for both youth and the region to grow together."
Meanwhile, any county resident interested in youth policy can participate in the forum by registering in advance. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Youth Policy Team.
