Renault Korea's mid-size SUV, the Grand Koleos, has begun expanding its target beyond the domestic market to the global stage.
After surpassing 10,000 units sold in the shortest period in the domestic SUV market and achieving the highest rating in the SUV category of the Korea New Car Assessment Program (KNCAP), the Grand Koleos recently completed its first export shipment to the Central and South American region.
At the center of this achievement is the Renault Korea Busan Plant. Produced under the "Made in Busan" label, the Grand Koleos is shipped from the Busan Plant, which boasts the lowest defect rate among Renault Group's more than 20 production bases. The plant's proven quality competitiveness, previously demonstrated through exports of the Nissan Rogue to North America, is said to be continuing with this model.
The plant has introduced an AI vision inspection system that automatically detects engine rooms, underbody components, and piston rings?areas that are difficult to identify with the naked eye. Inspection items and AI models can be directly adjusted by workers, ensuring both precision and efficiency in quality checks. The Busan Plant functions not only as a production facility but also as a global quality hub.
Renault Korea was the first in the country to implement a "mixed production system" that allows internal combustion engine vehicles and electric vehicles to be produced on a single line. To achieve this, the company redeployed about 740 workers per day, revamped 68 pieces of production equipment, and built customized facilities for battery installation. Renault's global strategy, the "International Gameplan," is progressing smoothly.
Born from this foundation, the Grand Koleos combines French-inspired design with practicality and safety, sweeping all three major "SUV of the Year" titles in Korea and earning the trust and admiration of the market.
A Renault Korea representative emphasized, "The Busan Plant is no longer just a manufacturing base, but a future vehicle production hub that concentrates global quality and technological capabilities," adding, "Building on the success of the Grand Koleos, we will accelerate the expansion of electric vehicles and global exports."
The "future" is beckoning at the Renault Korea Busan Plant, where the identity of France's Renault and the manufacturing capabilities of Korea come together.
