Expansion of Overtime Work Recognition During Childcare Time and Spousal Paternity Leave
On June 20, the Gwangju Seo-gu Council passed, as originally proposed, the partial amendment ordinance to the "Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council Local Public Officials Service Ordinance," which was initiated by Council Member Sung-Hwa Lim (representing Gwangcheon-dong, Yudeok-dong, Chipyeong-dong, Sangmu 1-dong, and Dongcheon-dong) during the 331st 1st regular session. As a result, the standards for recognizing overtime work, special leave, and spouse paternity leave for local public officials in the Seo-gu Council will be expanded.

This amendment expands the criteria for granting service and leave to local public officials, including: recognition of overtime work on days when childcare time is used; expansion of encouragement leave (such as for heavy workload or family-friendly purposes); and 20 days of congratulatory and condolence leave for spouse childbirth (25 days in the case of multiple births at one time).
Council Member Lim stated, "We have been reviewing measures such as granting 'birthday leave' as special leave to the council secretariat and Seo-gu Office public officials," adding, "There is a growing call for 'improving the treatment of public officials.' If job satisfaction among public officials increases amid rising administrative demands, this will lead to better administrative services for residents."
She further added, "We will not stop at this ordinance amendment, but will continue to actively review matters that can be improved independently regarding the enhancement of working conditions and welfare benefits for public officials."
