Namyangju City Activates Emergency Response System for Heavy Rain Advisory

The meeting was attended by Mayor Joo Gwangdeok, the head of citizen safety, and the directors of departments and bureaus. They shared information on the weather situation, rainfall by region, drainage facility operations, and monitoring status of high-risk areas, and discussed response measures.
According to the weather report, a heavy rain advisory was issued for the entire city at 6 a.m. on the 20th. The cumulative rainfall from midnight to 9 a.m. averaged 27mm, with a maximum of 41mm in Onam-eup and a minimum of 9mm in Joan-eup.
In response, Namyangju City took measures including the forward deployment of eight drainage pump stations, restricting access to riverside walking trails and Saewolgyo bridges, and strengthening monitoring of high-risk areas such as low-lying regions and underpasses.
Additionally, at 6:13 a.m., the city sent an emergency duty response text message and activated Emergency Level 1 (Advisory) of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, which includes 256 personnel from towns, districts, departments, and bureaus.
Furthermore, the city used the automatic voice alert system (70 locations) to guide evacuations from high-risk areas such as Saewolgyo bridges and riversides. At 6:45 a.m., a disaster safety text message was sent to all citizens, urging them to avoid entering dangerous areas.
Namyangju City is maintaining its situation management system in accordance with the Korea Meteorological Administration's forecast that rainfall may increase. The city plans to continue intensive monitoring activities, as heavy rain is expected in the afternoon.
Mayor Joo Gwangdeok stated, "As the weather situation is changing rapidly, please communicate closely with the autonomous disaster prevention teams and the local safety networks in each town and district to ensure effective response." He also emphasized, "Do not be constrained by administrative procedures?respond quickly and proactively on-site if necessary, and do your utmost to protect the lives and property of our citizens."
