Dong-A University Graduate Students Jeon Jeseok and Park Jungwon Receive Presidential Science Scholarship

Dong-A University announced on June 20 that graduate students Jeon Jeseok (Ph.D. program in Biomedical Science) and Park Jungwon (integrated master's and Ph.D. program in Health Science) have been selected as final recipients of the "2nd Graduate Presidential Science Scholarship."

Jeon Jeseok will receive this scholarship consecutively, following his selection during his master's program last year and now again in his doctoral program. He will receive up to 96 million won over eight semesters, while Park Jungwon will receive up to 48 million won over four semesters.

The "Graduate Presidential Science Scholarship" is a national scholarship program established last year by the Ministry of Science and ICT to create an environment conducive to research for graduate students in science and engineering fields. The program aims to boost the pride of outstanding talents and provide step-by-step customized support to help them grow into world-class core researchers.

Jeon is currently conducting research on genome stability, focusing on the "Nucleotide Excision Repair (NER)-based DNA damage repair mechanism" as his doctoral thesis topic.

He stated, "I am honored to be selected as a scholarship recipient. I aim to grow into a key researcher in the field of DNA repair and contribute to the advancement of basic science."

Park is conducting research on "Inducing immune tolerance in allergic diseases using antibody complexes derived from inflammatory cells." Both students are being recognized as core future researchers in the domestic life sciences field, based on their achievements in basic medical science research.

He said, "I feel a great sense of responsibility, as my academic passion and sincere attitude toward research have been recognized. With the Presidential Scholarship as a turning point, I will approach my research with even greater responsibility and strive to make meaningful contributions to academia and society. I would like to express my deep gratitude to my advisor, Professor Kim Hyuksun, and everyone involved for their support, which allows me to focus on my studies. I will do my utmost to achieve results worthy of the scholarship's significance."

Yoon Hyejin (Ph.D. program in Health Science), who was selected as a recipient of the "1st Graduate Presidential Science Scholarship" last year along with Jeon Jeseok, continues to receive scholarship support.
