JW Pharmaceutical Launches Tablet-Type Bowel Cleanser "Jcle Tab"

JW Pharmaceutical announced on June 20 that it has launched "Jcle Tab," a tablet-type bowel cleansing agent.

Jcle Tab is a prescription medication taken to cleanse the colon prior to procedures such as endoscopy or X-ray imaging. The total dosage for Jcle Tab is 20 tablets, which is currently the lowest among tablet-type bowel cleansers available in Korea. It is formulated as a film-coated tablet to make swallowing easier and further improve patient convenience.

Existing powder or liquid-type bowel cleansing agents often cause adverse reactions such as nausea and headache during administration, and may also reduce the accuracy of examinations. In contrast, the tablet formulation reduces adverse reactions and provides superior convenience for patients.

The main ingredients of Jcle Tab include magnesium sulfate, potassium sulfate, and sodium sulfate, which act as osmotic laxatives; simethicone, which removes bubbles in the colon; and sodium picosulfate, which promotes colon motility.

In a phase 3 clinical trial, the bowel cleansing efficacy of Jcle Tab showed no statistically significant difference compared to the control group based on the Harefield Cleansing Scale (HCS), and the polyp and adenoma detection rates were also similar between the groups.

Regarding adverse events, the rates of nausea and headache were significantly lower in the Jcle Tab group compared to the control group. The incidence of nausea was 21.7% in the control group and 7.62% in the Jcle Tab group. For headache, the control group recorded 8.49%, while the Jcle Tab group showed a lower rate of 0.95%. No special adverse events of interest related to electrolyte abnormalities, such as hyponatremia or hypokalemia, were observed.

JW Pharmaceutical plans to expand the distribution of Jcle Tab, focusing on hospitals and clinics, in response to the growing market demand for tablet-type bowel cleansing agents.

A representative from JW Pharmaceutical stated, "Jcle Tab is a next-generation bowel cleansing agent that enhances patient convenience," adding, "We expect it to become a new alternative in the hospital- and clinic-centered prescription market in the future."
