In November of last year, Korea National Oil Corporation launched the Gyeongnam Region Public Institution Process Safety Council together with 22 public institutions, including Korea District Heating Corporation and Korea East-West Power, to establish a culture of voluntary safety management and to maintain and further develop accident-free workplaces.
Among the 22 institutions, the Geoje branch of Korea National Oil Corporation was appointed as the inaugural chair company at the request of the Ministry of Employment and Labor after receiving the highest P grade in the Ministry’s PSM evaluations in both 2018 and 2022.
At this meeting, attended by 28 representatives from PSM sites in the Gyeongnam region, participants discussed ways to enhance the effectiveness of the PSM system and to promote a culture of safety within the region.
Additionally, the Gyeongnam Region Major Industrial Accident Prevention Center introduced accident cases at PSM sites and raised awareness among member companies about the importance of preventing safety incidents. This was followed by presentations on exemplary PSM sites and an open discussion aimed at revitalizing the council.
Jonggwan Kim, head of the Geoje branch of Korea National Oil Corporation, stated, "We are pleased that our participation in this council enables us to contribute to the nationwide expansion of the PSM system and the establishment of a safety culture," and added, "We will continue to take the lead in ensuring workplace safety and will make ongoing efforts to foster a voluntary safety culture in Korea, practicing win-win cooperation in the field of safety."
