Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is joining forces with six local universities to foster talent in the semiconductor sector.

On June 19, Yongin City announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with six local universities to establish the 'Yongin City Semiconductor Talent Development Industry-Academia Council' at the mayor's reception room in city hall. The participating universities are Kangnam University, Kyung Hee University, Dankook University, Myongji University, Yongin Arts and Science University, and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.

This agreement is a follow-up measure to the 'Industry-Academia Council Kickoff Meeting' held with these universities last month. With the signing of the agreement, the city and the universities have formalized their cooperation and plan to launch a full-fledged collaborative system.

Under the agreement, Yongin City and the participating universities will form the Industry-Academia Council and jointly explore various cooperation measures to establish a foundation for nurturing talent in the semiconductor field.

In particular, the participating universities plan to pursue practical collaborative projects, including joint cooperation initiatives, partnership programs with semiconductor high schools, and joint responses to national and provincial government project proposals.

The city aims to strengthen the foundation for collaboration between the region and universities through the council, pooling resources and capabilities to build a sustainable cooperation model.

Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "In Yongin, where a large-scale semiconductor belt is being established, semiconductor-related talent is extremely important and in high demand. The city and the universities must continue to work together to nurture and produce outstanding talent."
