Utilizing Solar and Geothermal Energy... Creating an Eco-Friendly Complex

A residential-commercial complex building with a maximum of 61 floors will be constructed in Yongdu-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul.
On June 20, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the proposal for the "Urban Maintenance-Type Public Redevelopment Project in District 6, Yongdu 1 Redevelopment Promotion Zone" had conditionally passed an integrated review by the 5th Urban Renewal Project Integrated Review Committee. The review covered the fields of architecture, landscape, transportation, and environmental impact assessment.
The project site is located near Cheongnyangni Station and Jegidong Station on Subway Line 1, as well as Yongdu Station on Line 2. The plan includes three residential buildings (61 floors, 958 units), one office building (officetel with 138 units), neighborhood living facilities, and the Dongdaemun-gu Family Center. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2027, with sales planned for December 2028.
This plan applies height standards reflecting local characteristics in accordance with the 2040 Seoul Urban Master Plan. The skyline has been designed to harmonize with buildings in the surrounding Cheongnyangni Redevelopment Promotion District, and the number of floors has been reduced in areas adjacent to the southern residential zone to take the neighboring area into consideration.
In addition, the plan incorporates a pedestrian axis for the entire district by creating an east-west public pedestrian passage and a north-south public pedestrian passage that reflects pedestrian demand along Wangsan-ro.
Furthermore, the project will actively utilize solar and geothermal energy to achieve Zero Energy Building Grade 5, Energy Efficiency Grade 1++, the highest grade (Green 1) in Green Building Certification, and will apply both passive and active technologies such as geothermal heat pumps to create a sustainable, eco-friendly complex for the future.
Sixty-six units of the Mirinae Home, each with an exclusive area of 59 square meters or more, will be supplied to support newlywed couples and others. Life-oriented public facilities such as a family support center and a kids’ cafe will also be installed within the complex to enhance convenience for residents.
Choi Jinseok, Director of Housing at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, stated, "With the passage of this integrated review, a foundation has been laid for the Cheongnyangni area in Dongdaemun-gu to emerge as a major hub in the northeastern region. We will continue to provide active support for the improvement of residents’ lives and balanced regional development."
