First Interview with the Media
Pope Leo XIV stated on the 19th (local time) in an interview with Italy's public broadcaster Rai's TG1 channel, "Let us all come together in wisdom to find a solution to war."
In the interview, which aired at 8 p.m. on the TG1 channel that night, the Pope said, "The current global situation is truly concerning," and added, "I am constantly monitoring what is happening in various regions of the world, day and night."
He continued, "These days, there is a lot of discussion about issues in the Middle East, but the problems are not limited to that region alone. Once again, I wish to make an appeal for peace. Whatever the cost, the use of force must be avoided, and I hope that solutions can be found through diplomatic means and dialogue. Let us all come together in wisdom to find a solution," he proposed.
He also emphasized, "Even now, countless innocent people are losing their lives," and stressed, "We must always promote peace."
This interview was conducted immediately after the Pope made an unannounced visit to the Vatican Radio Center (Santa Maria Galeria), located on the northwestern outskirts of Rome. This is the first media interview by Pope Leo XIV, who was elected on May 8, following the passing of Pope Francis in April.
