On the afternoon of the 19th, the Social Division 1 of the 21st National Policy Planning Committee received a work report from the Ministry of Employment and Labor at the Government Sejong Convention Center and reviewed major pending issues and key policy tasks.
The committee focused its discussions on tasks aimed at "a nation where working people are the main actors and a society where labor is respected." Specifically, it reviewed major issues related to the protection of labor rights, such as the Yellow Envelope Act, and wage arrears.
The committee also included in its discussions the promotion of a social consensus on extending the retirement age to prepare for demographic changes and the era of industrial and energy transition, as well as plans to reform vocational training.
The committee stated, "Based on the content of today's work report, we plan to select national policy tasks to realize a 'labor-respecting society' through further review by the committee and discussions with relevant ministries."
Meanwhile, Hanju Lee, Chairman of the National Policy Planning Committee, expressed his determination to address related issues during the Ministry of Employment and Labor's work report session, stating, "When it comes to labor, the dual structure of the labor market and wage gaps are issues that can be particularly problematic."
He also added, "The Yellow Envelope Act was included in the pledges to address these gaps," and "We will establish a solid foundation to ensure the safety and employment of the rapidly increasing number of non-regular workers."
