Monsoon Rains to Come and Go Repeatedly
Heavy Rain Preliminary Advisories Issued for Some Areas
This monsoon rain will continue with intermittent pauses, but when it pours, the rainfall will be so heavy that visibility may be severely reduced.
In the Seoul metropolitan area, between the early morning and late morning of the 20th, northern Gyeonggi and the five West Sea islands will see rainfall of 20 to 30 mm per hour, and from the afternoon to nighttime, the entire region may experience rainfall of 30 to 50 mm per hour.
In Gangwon, the northern inland area is expected to receive 20 to 30 mm of rain per hour in the morning tomorrow, and from the afternoon of the 20th to the early morning of the 21st, heavy rain of 30 to 50 mm per hour is forecast.
As heavy and intense rain is expected in the northern part of the central region, a heavy rain preliminary advisory has been issued for the five West Sea islands, Ganghwa in Incheon, Gimpo, Yeoncheon, and Paju in Gyeonggi, as well as Cheorwon in Gangwon.
In Chungcheong, the northern west coast of South Chungcheong will see 20 to 30 mm of rain per hour in the afternoon of the 20th, while Sejong and northern North Chungcheong, as well as Daejeon and southern South Chungcheong, will each experience heavy rain of 30 to 50 mm per hour from the night of the 20th to the early morning of the 21st, and from the early morning to the morning of the 21st, respectively.
From tomorrow afternoon, strong winds with instantaneous speeds of 70 km/h (and up to 90 km/h in mountainous areas) are expected in the western Seoul metropolitan area, the west coast of South Chungcheong, the west coast of Jeolla, the mountainous areas of Gangwon, mid-mountainous areas of Jeju, and mountainous areas of Jeju. Other regions can expect gusts of around 55 km/h. Preparations should be made for strong winds and heavy rain.
The expected minimum and maximum temperatures for major cities on the 20th are as follows: Seoul, 23°C and 25°C; Incheon, 22°C and 23°C; Daejeon and Gwangju, 23°C and 27°C; Daegu, 23°C and 28°C; Ulsan, 22°C and 27°C; and Busan, 22°C and 25°C.
From the morning of the 20th, strong winds of 30 to 60 km/h (9 to 16 m/s) and high waves of 1.5 to 4.0 meters are expected in the distant West Sea. From the afternoon, these conditions will affect the nearshore West Sea (excluding the southern nearshore off South Jeolla), and from nighttime, the distant central East Sea. High seas advisories may be issued for these maritime areas.
