Strong Rain Accompanied by Gusty Winds Expected from the 20th
Concerns Over Public Safety
On June 19, the city of Cheonan in South Chungcheong Province announced the complete cancellation of the "2025 Cheonan Univcity with Maxsum Festival," which was scheduled to take place in the Oryunmun Square area of Cheonan Sports Complex from the evening of June 20 through June 21.
According to the city and the Daejeon Regional Meteorological Administration, there is a high possibility that a heavy rain warning will be issued, as very strong rain accompanied by gusty winds, thunder, and lightning is forecast for all areas of South Chungcheong Province from the night of the event day through June 21.
Previously, in response to the rainy season forecast, the city had changed the venue from the Citizens' Sports Park to the Sports Complex and adjusted some programs to alcohol-free experiences. However, due to continued concerns about severe weather, the city ultimately decided to cancel the event.
This event was planned as a summer festival centered on youth and university students, with stages and experience booths linked to youth cultural content scheduled to be featured.
A city official stated, "We ask for the understanding of citizens, youth, and university officials who were looking forward to the event," adding, "We will continue to respond proactively to climate change and prioritize citizen safety above all else."
