The KOSPI closed slightly higher, supported by net buying from individual investors.
On June 19, the KOSPI finished trading at 2,977.74, up 5.55 points (0.19%) from the previous session. Trading volume was provisionally tallied at 427.34 million shares, with a trading value of 13.5493 trillion won.
By investor type, institutions and foreigners recorded net selling of 301.6 billion won and 87.3 billion won, respectively, while individuals were net buyers of 350.9 billion won. In the futures market, institutions and individuals posted net buying of 195.3 billion won and 11.1 billion won, respectively, while foreigners recorded net selling of 211.2 billion won. In program trading, there was a net buying of 103.7 billion won in arbitrage trades and a net selling of 53 billion won in non-arbitrage trades.
Performance by sector was mixed. IT services rose 2.88%, paper and wood 2.41%, textiles and apparel 1.78%, metals 1.73%, construction 1.51%, general services 1.18%, machinery and equipment 1.03%, insurance 0.76%, distribution 0.42%, finance 0.35%, and chemicals 0.33%. In contrast, the electricity and gas sector fell 1.73%, securities -1.07%, pharmaceuticals -0.72%, non-metallic minerals -0.52%, transportation and storage -0.48%, and electrical and electronics -0.43%.
Among large-cap stocks, performance was mixed. Samsung Electronics fell 1%, SK hynix -0.2%, Samsung Biologics -0.5%, LG Energy Solution -0.34%, KB Financial Group -0.28%, and Kia -0.71%, all closing weaker. On the other hand, Hanwha Aerospace rose 0.76%, Hyundai Motor 0.49%, NAVER 3.49%, and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries 0.47%, all closing stronger.
On the day, 432 stocks rose, 443 stocks fell, and 61 stocks closed unchanged. One stock hit the upper price limit.
The KOSDAQ also finished slightly higher. On the same day, the KOSDAQ closed at 782.51, up 2.78 points (0.36%) from the previous session. By investor type, institutions and individuals were net buyers of 16.6 billion won and 126.4 billion won, respectively, while foreigners were net sellers of 136.5 billion won.
Among large-cap KOSDAQ stocks, more stocks rose than fell. Ecopro BM climbed 0.55%, HLB 5.77%, Rainbow Robotics 0.37%, PharmaResearch 4.63%, Peptron 7.95%, Classys 1.81%, LIG ChemBio 1.04%, and Leeno Industrial 0.8%. In contrast, Alteogen fell 2.03%, Ecopro -1.2%, and Hugel -3.13%, all closing weaker.
Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate is trading at 1,379.2 won, up 6.9 won from the previous session.
