On the 19th, the Marine Corps Veterans Regiment posted a statement titled "Petition for Severe Punishment of Active-Duty Marines Involved in Animal Cruelty" on social media. The statement called for strict punishment for two active-duty Marines and one civilian, stating, "We urge severe punishment for the two active-duty Marines and one civilian who have failed to uphold the virtues expected of a person," and added, "Anyone who tarnishes the name of the Marine Corps should be immediately expelled from the Corps."

They explained, "On June 8, 2025, two active-duty Marines, while on leave, stayed at a lodging in Geoje, Gyeongnam with a civilian. They fired hundreds of BB gun rounds at four dogs tied up in the yard of a nearby restaurant. As a result, one dog died, two suffered serious injuries including eye damage, and the remaining dog was also injured."

They continued, "The perpetrators fired hundreds of rounds for over an hour, yet claimed they 'had no intention to kill.' The father of the brothers involved visited the victim, saying he would compensate for the damages. The unit to which the Marines belong also made a shocking call, asking the incident not to be made public." They criticized, "After being called 'Gaebyeongdae' (a derogatory term for the Marine Corps), now they're being called 'dog-killing Marines.' It is utterly contemptible that people who cannot even meet the basic standards of humanity are part of the Marine Corps."

The three men were friends; two were active-duty soldiers and one was a civilian. It is reported that they committed the act after drinking alcohol. The civilian has been booked on charges of violating the Animal Protection Act and trespassing.

The police are investigating the motive for the crime, the type of BB gun used, and the exact circumstances of the incident.
