Jung Chulwon, the mayor of Damyang County in South Jeolla Province, participated in the 'Population Issue Awareness Improvement Relay Campaign' in his office on the 18th to foster national consensus and spread social awareness about the problem of population decline.
The campaign, organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Human Resources Development Institute for Health and Welfare, began in October of last year. Its goal is to promote social consensus and responses to population decline and demographic changes caused by low birth rates and an aging population. Local governments, public institutions, and private companies across the country are participating in the campaign.
On the 19th, Mayor Jung stated, "The population crisis caused by low birth rates and an aging society is a challenge that the entire nation of Korea must address together." He added, "I hope this campaign serves as an opportunity to raise social interest in population issues, and Damyang County will continue to implement effective policies that all generations can truly feel."
