The Damyang Farmers' Association in Jeonnam held the '2025 Damyang Unification Rice Planting Event' on the 19th in the Wolsan-myeon area, wishing for inter-Korean reconciliation and unification.
The event was hosted by the Damyang Movement Headquarters for Unification Agricultural Machinery Sharing and organized by the Damyang Farmers' Association. More than 100 people participated, including Jeong Cheolwon, governor of Damyang-gun, Jang Myeongyeong, chair of the Damyang County Council, Park Jongwon and Lee Gyuhyeon, members of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, as well as local farmers' organizations and members of the Farmers' Association.
Choi Jeongjin, president of the Damyang Farmers' Association, said, "At a time when expectations for improved inter-Korean relations are growing, I hope the seeds of peace and coexistence will bear fruit in the form of unification."
Governor Jeong Cheolwon stated, "Just as spring follows winter, a warm breeze is beginning to flow in the previously frozen inter-Korean relationship. I hope this event serves as an opportunity for the local community to reaffirm its aspiration for unification." He added, "I will strive to communicate more with farmers in the field and work together to find solutions for a 'strong agricultural Damyang.'"
Meanwhile, the Unification Rice Planting Event is a nationwide project organized by the Korean Peasants League, with local farmers' associations cultivating rice and donating the proceeds to the Inter-Korean Unification Fund. In Damyang-gun, this initiative, which was suspended due to COVID-19, resumed in 2022 and has been held annually since then.
