Improving Energy Efficiency and Reducing Pollutant Emissions
Handok announced on June 19 that it has signed an agreement with the Korea Environment Corporation for the 2025 Smart Eco-Factory Construction Project.
The Smart Eco-Factory Construction Project is led by the Korea Environment Corporation and is a government initiative that supports the transition to and construction of eco-friendly factories in order to reduce greenhouse gases and pollutants, as well as to improve energy and resource efficiency.
Through this project, Handok will further strengthen its leading eco-friendly management practices. The company plans to build an eco-friendly smart factory to increase energy efficiency and reduce pollutant emissions. The total project cost is 2.14 billion KRW, of which 1 billion KRW will be provided as government funding, while Handok will invest an additional 1.14 billion KRW.
Handok will install additional solar power generation facilities and replace refrigeration units, boilers, and pumps with eco-friendly, high-efficiency equipment to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. In addition, the company will implement an information and communications technology (ICT) system to realize an eco-friendly smart factory and collect and analyze data in real time. Furthermore, Handok will enhance the efficiency of dust collection equipment to reduce air pollutants and install advanced wastewater treatment facilities to effectively remove water pollutants.
Yoon Jooyeon, Vice President of Handok Production Plant, stated, "Handok has long been committed to addressing environmental issues and creating eco-friendly workplaces. As the environment is closely linked to health, we will continue our efforts to build a healthier planet together."
Meanwhile, the Handok production plant is a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical manufacturing facility equipped with a cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice) quality management system that meets international standards. As the first domestic pharmaceutical company to be designated a green enterprise, Handok has been at the forefront of eco-friendly management. Since the 1990s, the company has established health, safety, and environment policies and built its own integrated HSE system, while actively investing in and pursuing various activities to save resources and energy and reduce pollutants as part of its eco-friendly management initiatives.
