Park Mijeong, a member of the Gwangju City Council (Democratic Party of Korea, Dong-gu 2), announced on the 19th that she held a residents' meeting on the 18th at the resident support center of Seongyo 2nd Woobang IU Shell Foret Apartment in Dong-gu regarding the introduction of a school bus for Jihan Elementary School.
This meeting, arranged through Park's mediation, aimed to address safety concerns related to long-distance commuting, listen to the position of the Office of Education, and seek alternative solutions.
Jihan Elementary School is located along a long-distance commuting route from nearby apartments, which includes uphill sections. As a result, parents have continuously raised complaints that commuting is difficult for lower-grade students. In particular, the section in question has relatively high vehicle speeds, which has heightened concerns about student safety on their way to and from school.
During the briefing session, a variety of topics were discussed, including the feasibility of introducing a school bus, criteria for school commuting zones, fairness in school assignments, and the applicability of similar cases.
Park emphasized, "The safety of children must be the top priority, and the Office of Education and parents should communicate sufficiently to seek joint solutions." She added, "I will continue to faithfully serve as a mediator so that the voices of parents can be reflected in policy."
