Pusan National University Achieves Consecutive High Rankings in QS and THE World University Rankings, Strengthening Its Status as Korea's Top National University

Pusan National University is solidifying its presence on the global stage by achieving high rankings in world-renowned university evaluation agencies such as QS and THE.


On June 19, Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) announced that it ranked 473rd in the '2026 QS World University Rankings' released by the British global university evaluation agency QS (Quacquarelli Symonds). This marks a significant jump of 51 places from last year's 524th position and represents a meaningful achievement of rising in the rankings for three consecutive years.


In this evaluation, Pusan National University ranked first among national universities in Korea and eighth among comprehensive universities in the country, once again proving its status as a leading national university. This accomplishment was achieved amid fierce competition among 8,467 universities worldwide that participated in this year's QS evaluation.


Additionally, Pusan National University achieved its highest-ever result in a global university evaluation focused on social responsibility, ranking 13th in the world and 2nd in Korea in the '2025 THE Impact Rankings' announced by THE (Times Higher Education) on June 18.


The THE Impact Rankings assess universities' performance in fulfilling social responsibility based on the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, more than 2,500 universities worldwide participated, and Pusan National University delivered outstanding results in several categories, including SDG1 (No Poverty), SDG2 (Zero Hunger), and SDG8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).


Hwang Sungwook, Director of Planning at Pusan National University, stated, "Internal policy innovations, such as improvements in research support and promotion systems, are leading to tangible results," adding, "In the second half of the year, we will further strengthen the foundation for sustainable university development through the second phase of institutional reforms."


President Choi Jaewon emphasized, "The upward trend in global university rankings objectively demonstrates Pusan National University's competitiveness in education, research, and internationalization," and added, "We will continue to fulfill our responsibility as a national flagship university and will not cease our strategic innovations to become a world-class institution."


Pusan National University previously co-hosted the APEC University Leaders Forum with the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) and, more recently, welcomed over 230 visitors?including distinguished scholars from Harvard and MIT, researchers from global companies, and international students?highlighting its ongoing achievements in international exchange.
