"I Had to Look Twice Thinking They Were Sushi"... Dogs Wearing 'Picnic Mat Raincoats' on a Rainy Day

Dogs in Picnic Mat Raincoats Draw Attention
Online Users Say, "Even Cuter Because They Look Silly"

Homemade raincoats crafted by owners using picnic mats for their dogs who still want to go for walks despite the pouring rain are gaining attention.

On June 15, two photos were posted on the online community FM Korea under the title "Raincoat Made to Keep Dogs Dry."

The photos show two dogs following closely behind a man holding an umbrella on a rainy day, each wearing an upside-down picnic mat. It appears that the owner personally made these raincoats using picnic mats for the dogs who wanted to go for a walk despite the bad weather. The homemade "picnic mat raincoats" are large enough to cover the dogs from chest to back and are securely fastened with string to prevent them from slipping off. Thanks to this, the dogs are seen enjoying their walk energetically even in the heavy rain.

Online users who saw the photos responded warmly, leaving comments such as "I had to look twice because I thought they were sushi," "They're even cuter because they look silly," "You can feel the father's love," "You can't skip a walk even in a downpour," "They look like characters from a martial arts novel," "They look like wandering warriors," "The dogs probably think they're wearing rare armor," "They look like dogs from Joseon Dynasty paintings," and "Such a lovely scene."

Meanwhile, this year's monsoon season began in Jeju on June 12, and both the central and southern regions are expected to enter the rainy season around June 20. On June 19, the Korea Meteorological Administration announced that rain accompanied by thunder and lightning would fall from the morning in Jeju, from the afternoon in Chungnam, Jeolla, southwestern Gyeongbuk, and western Gyeongnam, and from nighttime in the Seoul metropolitan area, inland Gangwon, and Chungbuk.

This rain is the first monsoon rain of the year caused by a stationary front, and compared to the average (1991?2020), the rainy season is starting 5 to 6 days earlier in the central region and 3 to 4 days earlier in the southern region. The expected rainfall from June 19 to June 21 is 50?100 mm (with some areas exceeding 120 mm) in Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, and inland and mountainous Gangwon; and 30?80 mm (with some areas in northern Chungnam and northern Chungbuk exceeding 100 mm) in Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungnam.
