Bodyfriend Registers Patent for Focused Massage Technology Targeting Hapkokhoel Acupressure Point

Effective for Alleviating Indigestion and Reducing Facial Swelling

On June 19, Bodyfriend announced that it has registered a patent for a device and technology that focuses on acupressure of the Hapkokhoel area, located between the thumb and index finger, to help users manage their health.

Bodyfriend Registers Patent for Focused Massage Technology Targeting Hapkokhoel Acupressure Point

The Hapkokhoel is an acupressure point located in the depression on the back of the hand between the thumb and index finger, at the midpoint of the second metacarpal bone. Proper massage of this area is known to help with health management, such as alleviating indigestion and reducing facial swelling.

The official name of the newly registered patent is "Massage Device Equipped with a Hand Massage Module" (Patent No. 10-2805518), and it is a core technology that will be applied to various healthcare robot groups in the future. The patent covers a technology in which a pressure rod, installed inside a module designed to accommodate the thumb, moves back and forth (repeatedly protruding and retracting) to apply acupressure and massage to the Hapkokhoel area of the hand.

When the thumb is inserted into the module, the pressure rod mounted on the side presses the Hapkokhoel from the side. The module is structurally designed so that the thumb is positioned lower than the index finger, and the pressure rod is arranged so that it does not interfere with the massage by catching on the thumb.

A Bodyfriend representative stated, "We are continuously developing devices and technologies to improve health by massaging and applying acupressure to acupoints that are considered important not only in Western medicine but also in traditional Korean medicine," and added, "We will continue to do our best to develop new technologies to fulfill our mission of extending healthy life expectancy by 10 years."
