A Leap Toward Becoming a Leading Model for Food Plan Local Governments
Anticipated as a Core Hub for Public Meal Services and Direct Market Distribution
Cheongyang County in South Chungcheong Province has set a new milestone in food plan policy by becoming the first local government in the country to complete a 'Comprehensive Food Town'.
On June 19, Cheongyang County announced that it had completed construction of the 'Food Plan Promotion and Education Center' in Tanjeong-ri, Daechi-myeon, Cheongyang County, on June 18.
The Promotion and Education Center is regarded as the culmination of policy achievements led by Governor Kim Dongon, including being selected as a leading local government by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in 2018, and winning the Regional Food Index Grand Prize for three consecutive years from 2022 to 2024, since the introduction of the food plan project in 2016.
The county invested a total of 3.4 billion won, including 3 billion won from the national government for local extinction response and 400 million won from the county budget, to build a single-story facility with a total floor area of 657 square meters.
The Promotion and Education Center was designed as a multi-purpose complex space featuring a multi-purpose room, conference room, and promotion hall, reflecting creativity and practicality through a nationwide design competition. It also allows visitors to experience the facilities intuitively, thanks to a moving wall structure and the installation of media content.
In addition, it is expected to serve as a core hub that will function as a policy control tower, provide education for farmers, and offer a venue for resident participation and communication, thereby fostering organic cooperation among key stakeholders in the local food sector.
With the completion of the Promotion and Education Center, the county has finished the Cheongyang County Comprehensive Food Town project, which has been implemented in stages since 2018. On a total site of 20,000 square meters, eight core facilities covering the entire process?including pre-processing, processing, and safety analysis of agricultural products?have been integrated into one space.
Governor Kim Dongon stated, "The Promotion and Education Center is a space that encapsulates the philosophy and direction of Cheongyang County's food policy," and added, "Based on the Comprehensive Food Plan Town, we will do our utmost to ensure that Cheongyang grows further as a leading model for food policy in Korea."
