A story has emerged about twin sisters in China who were separated and adopted into different families just ten days after birth. The two accidentally met at the age of 17 and became close friends, only to discover a year later that they were actually twins. On June 16 (local time), the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported the story of twin sisters Haichao and Zhang Guoxin, who were adopted into different families in the same city in Hebei Province, China, and grew up unaware of each other's existence.

Why Both Sets of Parents Kept It Secret A touching story has emerged about twin sisters who were adopted by different families in China just 10 days after birth, who accidentally met and became close friends at the age of 17, only to discover a year later that they were biological sisters. Haichao heard from a friend that there was someone who looked exactly like her at a clothing store, and went there herself, meeting Zhang Guoxin for the first time. The two quickly became best friends, not only because of their similar appearances, but also due to their shared food preferences, voices, and hairstyles. However, at that time, they simply thought they resembled each other, not knowing they were sisters. Both sets of adoptive parents knew the girls were twins, but reportedly kept this fact a secret out of concern that their daughters would be shocked by the truth.

After more than a year of friendship, the parents finally revealed the truth to the two girls. They decided who would be the older sister by playing rock-paper-scissors, and it was later confirmed that Zhang Guoxin, who won, was indeed the elder twin. Interestingly, both sets of adoptive parents had bought homes in the same apartment complex when the girls were young, and the sisters even attended the same elementary school. Their resemblance was so striking that teachers sometimes could not tell them apart during parent-teacher meetings. The two also shared the same birthday and both suffered from a serious illness at around 100 days old. Now in their mid-thirties, the sisters run a social media account together, which has 62,000 followers. On the 20th anniversary of their reunion, they posted, "The past 20 years together have been nothing but happiness. Let's spend the next 20 years together as well." They added, "The world is vast, but the Earth is round. People who are destined to be together will eventually meet, no matter what."
