Discovering More Public Wedding Venues... Promoting a Practical Wedding Culture
Seoul City will establish 40 additional public wedding venues to help reduce wedding expenses for engaged couples. These venues will offer Namsan or Hangang views, and the city will also provide support for Sdeume (studio photography, dress, and makeup) costs.
On June 19, Seoul Mayor Oh Sehun announced the "Plan to Expand Support for More Beautiful Weddings" at Seoul City Hall, stating that the city will allocate a budget of 3.7 billion won for this initiative.

Mayor Oh expressed concern that, although the number of marriages in Seoul increased by 18.9% to 42,471 cases in 2024 compared to 2022 during the COVID-19 period, wedding hall rental fees, meal costs, and Sdeume expenses have been soaring. The support measures announced on this day reflect the trends and needs of engaged couples seeking more reasonable and personalized weddings.
First, the city will add 40 public wedding venues, including Namsan-view cafes suitable for private house weddings, performance halls for concert-style weddings, and indoor and outdoor venues with Hanok or sunset views. Currently, Seoul operates 25 public wedding venues.
Among these, the number of indoor public wedding halls?such as cafes and performance halls with Namsan or Inwangsan views, which offer hotel-level interiors at reasonable prices?will increase from the current five to 25 by 2030. The Banpo Jugong 1-danji reconstruction public wedding venue will be introduced as the first case following the revision of the ordinance to diversify public contribution facilities in development projects. "Pium Seoul," a hotel-level remodeled international event hall at Seoul Women's Plaza, located right in front of Daebang Station on Line 1, will open in July. Starting with Pium Seoul, the Namsan Creative Industry Hub Opera Hall will be developed into a complex wedding hall by 2027. In 2029, a cultural complex convention center will be established on donated land in Jungnang-gu, where there are currently no private wedding halls, and in 2030, the former Cheongdam High School site will be transformed into "Design Center Cheongdam," a complex wedding hall. For couples wishing for sunset weddings with a Hangang view, the rooftop at the Seoul Water Sports Center will open this month, and starting in September, weddings can also be held on the rooftop of the Hangang Bus Pier.
In particular, Seoul City will provide support for Sdeume costs to engaged couples using public wedding venues. Couples who hold their weddings according to the standard price system established by the city will receive up to 1 million won in Sdeume support. Additionally, 100 couples who submit a "Happy Story" will be selected to receive a "First Start Happiness Coupon" worth 1 million won, which can be used to purchase household and childcare items. Married couples who have completed their marriage registration will be eligible for special health check-up support of up to 1 million won per couple. Among the first couples to get married at newly established public wedding venues, those who agree to wedding production photos will receive up to 3 million won in support for wedding production costs, including flowers, tables, and photography.
Various events and campaigns will also be promoted to spread a culture of simple and practical weddings. Seoul City will solicit recommendations from citizens for public facilities currently operated by the city, select about five venues through citizen voting and review, and remodel them in the first half of next year to operate as public wedding venues. If there are public facilities outside the designated venues that couples wish to use, applications will be accepted, and, after consultation with relevant departments, Seoul City will grant approval. Applications will be accepted starting in July, and consultation and approval will be completed within 15 days of application.
Meanwhile, to promote these initiatives to engaged couples, Seoul City will set up a "More Beautiful Weddings" booth at major wedding fairs held in Seoul starting next year to provide consulting. To protect engaged couples from excessive costs and foster a fair-trade environment in the wedding service industry, a "Wedding Service Industry Legislation Forum" will also be held in September. Mayor Oh stated, "Seoul's hope is to create a city where the most wonderful and beautiful brides and grooms become the protagonists of more beautiful weddings, making Seoul a city where young people want to get married."
