Handwritten Apology Posted on Instagram on the 19th
"Admits to Attending Drinking Gathering with Acquaintances"
"But Firmly Denies Any Illegal Activity"
Ju Haknyeon (26) of the group The Boyz, who was expelled from both the group and his agency after a private meeting with a Japanese AV (adult video) actress, has released a handwritten letter of apology.
On June 19, Ju Haknyeon posted a handwritten apology on his Instagram Story. Bowing his head, he wrote, "To the fans and everyone who were shocked by the articles about me, I sincerely apologize for causing concern with this unfortunate incident."
He admitted, "It is true that I was present at a drinking gathering with acquaintances in the early morning of May 30," but firmly denied any illegal activity, stating, "There was absolutely no prostitution or any other illegal act as reported in articles or rumors." He reiterated his remorse, adding, "I am deeply reflecting on my actions and would like to sincerely apologize to those who were shocked."
Ju Haknyeon first became known to the public through the Mnet audition program 'Produce 101 Season 2' in 2017, and debuted as a member of The Boyz in December of the same year. However, on June 16, his agency, One Hundred, announced his sudden suspension of activities. Then, on June 18, a media outlet reported that Ju Haknyeon had recently attended a drinking party in Japan with Asuka Kirara, a former AV actress turned influencer. It was reported that the two shared physical contact, such as hugging, and stayed together until the early morning hours. As related tips and photos were spread through a Japanese weekly magazine, the controversy escalated. Some even raised suspicions of prostitution.
As the controversy grew, the agency One Hundred expelled Ju Haknyeon from The Boyz and terminated his exclusive contract. Cha Gawon, chairman of One Hundred, apologized, saying, "We humbly accept that we were insufficient in managing the private lives and conduct of our artists and staff. Through this incident, we recognize our responsibility and deeply reflect on our shortcomings."
