Gyeonggi-do Gender Violence Integrated Response Team Strengthens Support Activities Against Child and Adolescent Sexual Exploitation

The Gyeonggi-do Gender Violence Integrated Response Team is expanding its online and offline outreach activities and prevention campaigns to prevent sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.

Starting this year, the Response Team will expand its support activities by taking into account both the youth population inflow rate in 31 cities and counties within the province and the northern Gyeonggi region. Support has already been completed in Suwon, Seongnam, and Uijeongbu, and preparations are underway to provide support in Bucheon, Anyang, Namyangju, and Yangju.

Online activities will utilize counselors' working hours to provide real-time counseling and information on sexual exploitation prevention through Kakao Open Chat (Channel ID: 031cy). Online monitoring for victim response is also being conducted in parallel.

The Response Team, through its in-house Child and Adolescent Sexual Exploitation Victim Response Center, "Ggakaiae" Center, provides tailored integrated support such as on-site activities for early detection, institutional connections, counseling, as well as psychological, medical, and legal assistance for children and adolescents who have suffered sexual exploitation.

Offline activities, in cooperation with the center and local related organizations, will select areas in the southern and northern regions of Gyeonggi with a high proportion of teenagers, and will focus on field-based promotion and education for early detection of sexual exploitation victims, reporting, and counseling support.

Last year, the Response Team carried out a total of 38 support activities mainly in areas with active inflow of children and adolescents such as Suwon and Bucheon, conducted awareness-raising events, received 130 counseling cases, and achieved a total of 1,192 integrated support outcomes.

A Response Team official stated, "Prevention and swift response are crucial when it comes to sexual exploitation of children and adolescents," and added, "We will establish a more comprehensive community response system."
