On June 18, Jeollanam-do announced its vision for 13GW offshore wind power in the eastern region of the province at the 'Offshore Wind Power Industry Expo' held at Yeosu Expo Hall, and signed business agreements for the establishment of an energy basic income and the development of a supply chain for equipment and materials.
The Offshore Wind Power Industry Expo was hosted by Jeollanam-do and organized by the Green Energy Institute and the Jeonnam Wind Power Industry Association. Over 1,000 participants attended, including domestic and international offshore wind industry stakeholders and experts, as well as the heads of eight cities and counties, reaffirming Jeollanam-do's status in the offshore wind sector.
Under the theme "A Bold Challenge to Become a Global Offshore Wind Power Hub," the expo featured the first-ever declaration by a local government of a 13GW offshore wind power vision for the eastern region. The event also saw the signing of various business agreements, including those for energy basic income and the establishment of equipment supply chains, resulting in significant achievements.
Major power generation companies and regional supply chain companies?including Myungwoon Industry Development, Utop Construction, K-Wind Power, Bada Energy, Pacifico, COP, Renova, and Hanwha Ocean?signed eight MOUs to join forces in building the offshore wind power industry ecosystem. In addition, on-site business matching consultations between equipment suppliers and power generation companies further energized the event.
Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, stated, "Jeollanam-do has been quicker than any other region in preparing for a society centered on renewable energy. Taking this expo as an opportunity, we will redouble our efforts to establish an offshore wind power ecosystem and realize energy basic income. In particular, Jeollanam-do, as the most suitable region for the establishment of a Ministry of Climate and Energy, will actively work to take on that role."
As the energy capital of Korea, Jeollanam-do is actively pursuing the establishment of a Ministry of Climate and Energy. In line with the new government's policy direction, the province plans to expand the adoption of renewable energy sources such as offshore wind power and agrivoltaic solar power, foster related industries, and lead the era of energy basic income.
