Gwangsan District in Gwangju Conducts Earthquake and Urban Railway Complex Disaster Drill

Gwangsan District in Gwangju announced on June 18, 2025, that it had conducted an earthquake and urban railway complex disaster response drill at the Gwangsan District Office and around Pyeongdong Station as part of the 2025 Safe Korea Disaster Response Drill.


This drill simulated scenarios such as urban railway derailment, elevator malfunction, large-scale fire, flooding, and sinkhole occurrence caused by an earthquake and heavy rainfall. The purpose was to assess the district’s response capabilities based on real-life emergency rescue operations and the management of an integrated support headquarters.

More than 300 officials from Gwangsan District, Gwangsan Fire Station, Gwangju Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation, and Gwangsan Police Station participated. The drill also featured explanatory sessions and promotional areas for residents, making it an experiential training exercise.


Park Byungkyu, the head of Gwangsan District Office, stated, "This drill is a field-oriented exercise designed to respond to real-life situations," and added, "We will continue to build a city that is resilient to disasters and prioritizes safety."
