This inaugural general meeting marked the first official step in the city’s long-prepared establishment of a cultural foundation, and was organized to proactively respond to the rapidly growing urban scale and the increasing cultural demands of its citizens.

The meeting was attended by a total of 10 board members, including Joo Kwangdeok, mayor of Namyangju City, three ex officio members, and seven appointed members. Key procedures for establishing the foundation were carried out, including a report on the composition of the board of directors, the presentation of appointment letters to board members, and the approval of the articles of incorporation and property contributions.

During the meeting, a total of 13 agenda items were approved, including the appointment of board members and approval of the articles of incorporation, a proposal for basic and operating assets totaling 977 million won, business plans for 2025 and 2026, and nine sets of regulations.

The Namyangju Cultural Foundation plans to focus on supporting creative activities of local artists, planning and operating cultural and artistic content, improving the quality of cultural and artistic performances, and providing professional management of cultural facilities.

In particular, the foundation will professionally operate a large-scale cultural and arts center to be established in the Wangsuk 2 District, as well as regional performance venues. By doing so, it aims to enhance citizens’ cultural rights, strengthen local identity, and contribute to the revitalization of the local cultural and artistic ecosystem as a comprehensive cultural platform.

Mayor Joo Kwangdeok stated, "The establishment of this cultural foundation is the first step for Namyangju City to become a center of culture and the arts," adding, "Together with the Kakao AI Hub attracted to Namyangju, this will be a crucial turning point in realizing our vision of a future strategic city where 'culture' and 'advanced industries' coexist in harmony."

Meanwhile, the Namyangju Cultural Foundation is scheduled to officially launch in August, following the city’s announcement of foundation staff recruitment and the registration of the corporation next month.
