Incheon Line 1 Geomdan Extension to Open on 28th...Improved Transportation in Northwestern Incheon

The Geomdan Extension Line of Incheon Subway Line 1 will officially open on the 28th.


The Geomdan Extension Line, with a total project cost of 790 billion won, connects the existing terminus of Incheon Line 1 at Gyeyang Station to Geomdan New Town over a distance of 6.8 kilometers. Three new stations?Ara Station, Singeomdanjungang Station, and Geomdanhosu Park Station?have been established. Construction began in December 2019, and the line is set to open after approximately five years.


Incheon Line 1 began operations in October 1999 between Bakchon Station and Dongmak Station, with Gyulhyeon Station added in December of the same year and Gyeyang Station in March 2007. In June 2009, six stations in Songdo International City were opened, followed by Songdo Dalbit Festival Park Station in December 2020. With the addition of the three Geomdan stations, the line will now operate a total of 33 stations.

The Incheon city government expects that, with the opening of the Geomdan Extension Line, travel time from Geomdan New Town to Gyeyang Station will be reduced by about 12 minutes, from approximately 20 minutes to 8 minutes, thereby improving transportation convenience.


A city official stated, "The opening of the Geomdan Extension Line will improve residential conditions in northwestern Incheon and revitalize commercial and cultural functions, energizing the regional economy as a whole." The official added, "Going forward, we will enhance the overall transportation system in northwestern metropolitan areas by linking it with the broader transportation network."
