Seo-gu in Gwangju Opens 10th Cheonwon Guksi Branch in Yudeok-dong

A Daily Sale of 100 Bowls at Each of the 10 Branches

Seo-gu in Gwangju (headed by District Mayor Kim Ikang) opened the 10th branch of "Cheonwon Guksi," a noodle restaurant that residents can use without burden, on Chilseong-ro in Yudeok-dong on the 18th.

According to Seo-gu, the 10 Cheonwon Guksi branches now complete another welfare model by selling a total of 1,000 bowls of noodles per day at the affordable price of 1,000 won.

"Cheonwon Guksi" is Seo-gu's flagship welfare brand, providing noodles made from domestic wheat for just 1,000 won to seniors, pregnant women, and vulnerable groups.

Cheonwon Guksi, which limits sales to 100 bowls per store per day, goes beyond simple meal support. It embodies a threefold value: creating jobs for seniors, promoting the consumption of domestic wheat, and spreading a culture of sharing in daily life.

The district has expanded from its first branch in March 2023 to the 10th branch in just over two years. During this time, it has provided stable jobs to a total of 415 seniors, creating a new virtuous cycle model of welfare and employment.

In particular, the 10th branch was created under the concept of an "All Kids Zone," in line with Yudeok-dong’s brand identity as "a village where children smile." Not only children under 18, but also seniors over 60, pregnant women, and one companion of children under 7 can enjoy noodles for 1,000 won, making it an inclusive space for all generations.

This branch also operates a "Sharing Refrigerator," where residents and sponsors voluntarily donate food ingredients for anyone to use freely. As a community-based shared welfare space where "food and hearts are shared," it also helps spread the culture of community in the area.

District Mayor Kim Ikang said, "Cheonwon Guksi, which sells 1,000 bowls a day, is not just a welfare achievement, but a symbol of sharing and solidarity that brings about small but widespread changes close to residents’ lives." He added, "We will continue to expand the scope of good welfare by promoting various 1,000-won policies along with Cheonwon Guksi."
