The meeting was attended by Governor Jeon Jinseon, the deputy governor, directors of four bureaus, heads of relevant departments, and working-level officials. Participants listened to the project execution plan presented by the consulting firm and shared various opinions on the direction of the project.

This initiative was launched following the amendment of the 'Special Measures for Water Quality Conservation in the Paldang·Daecheongho Water Source Special Countermeasure Area and the Special Comprehensive Countermeasures (Special Notice)' on March 24. With this revision, eco-friendly vessel operations became possible if operated directly by the local government head.

Accordingly, Yangpyeong County is considering the introduction of an environmental education ship utilizing the Namhangang River. The environmental education ship is planned to focus on ecological and environmental education programs and experiential learning activities for local students and county residents.

The main course is being designed to center on Zone 1 of the Water Quality Conservation Special Countermeasure Area in Yangpyeong County, connecting major ecological resources and cultural heritage sites along the Namhangang River. Various contents are also being prepared, including experiential education linked to school curricula for students, environmental experience programs for county residents, and ecological interpretation tours for tourists.

Governor Jeon Jinseon stated, "The introduction of the environmental education ship has long been a wish of Yangpyeong residents and marks a turning point for the future of Yangpyeong. Through this project, I hope Yangpyeong will emerge as a city of environmental education and that it will serve as an opportunity to revitalize the local economy."

Meanwhile, Yangpyeong County plans to thoroughly review the conditions for the vessel and dock, operational plans, legal requirements, and economic feasibility through this feasibility study to secure the viability and implementability of the 'Namhangang Environmental Education Ship.' The county aims to begin pilot operations in the second half of 2027.
