Joint Effort with Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office
Full-Scale Response to Prevent Flooding
Gurye County in South Jeolla Province announced on the 18th that it had completed maintenance work on sewer facilities in the frequently flooded areas around Bongdong-ri, Gurye-eup (from in front of the 5-day market to Gurye Public Bus Terminal) on the 16th in preparation for the rainy season.
This maintenance activity involved more than 40 people, including 14 employees from the Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office and Gurye County officials. The main focus was on taking preemptive measures to prevent flood damage during heavy rain, such as removing sediment from stormwater inlets, cleaning sewer pipes, and inspecting facilities.

In particular, the team concentrated on low-lying roadside sections where flooding frequently occurs, checking for blocked sewer inlets and the accumulation of soil, and promptly maintaining any facilities where functionality was a concern.
Starting with this maintenance, the county plans to conduct a comprehensive inspection of all sewer facilities throughout the downtown area of Gurye-eup. Based on the results of this inspection, a phased overhaul of the sewer system will also be carried out.
A county official stated, "By taking proactive measures ahead of the rainy season, we are doing our utmost to prevent flood damage," and added, "We will continue to do our best to manage facilities for disaster prevention in the future."
