Until July 18... Six Survey Personnel to Be Deployed
Seo-gu District in Gwangju will conduct a comprehensive survey of facilities subject to the Traffic Congestion Charge for one month until July 18.
According to Seo-gu District on June 18, the Traffic Congestion Charge is imposed every October on owners of non-residential facilities with a total floor area of 1,000 square meters or more that cause traffic congestion, in accordance with Article 36 of the Urban Traffic Improvement Promotion Act. Applicable facilities include hospitals, performance halls, and department stores.
Seo-gu District has the highest number of applicable facilities among the five autonomous districts, with 2,870 cases. This survey is a preparatory step to enhance the accuracy and fairness of the charge. Seo-gu District will deploy six survey personnel to check the actual use of the facilities, whether they are unused (vacant) due to demolition or business closure, and whether facilities exempt from the charge are being used for purposes other than their intended use, among other operational conditions.
The period subject to the 2025 Traffic Congestion Charge is from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025. If a facility was not used for 30 days or more during this period, or was used for residential purposes, the charge for the unused period will be reduced or exempted.
Those eligible for the reduction or exemption must submit a non-use report and supporting documents during the designated reporting period next month. For more details, contact the Traffic Administration Division of Seo-gu District Office.
Kim Ikang, head of Seo-gu District, stated, "This comprehensive survey is a procedure to ensure the fair and accurate imposition of the Traffic Congestion Charge," and requested, "If a facility inspector visits, we ask for the active cooperation of owners and facility managers to ensure the survey proceeds smoothly."
