Kim Dongyeon’s Northern Region Grand Remodeling Project Gains Momentum with LG Display’s 700 Billion KRW Investment in Paju

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dongyeon is accelerating the Gyeonggi Northern Region Grand Remodeling Project. Following the recent attraction of the Kakao Digital Hub to the Wangsuk Complex in Namyangju, the province has also secured a large-scale investment of 700 billion KRW from LG Display.

On June 18, Gyeonggi Province announced that LG Display, a global leader in the display industry, has decided to invest 700 billion KRW in facility upgrades related to next-generation organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technologies at the Paju LCD General Industrial Complex. The investment will be made over two years, from June 2025 to June 2027.

The province believes that this investment will allow for the utilization of idle spaces within the Paju plant, providing an opportunity for Paju City to reemerge as a hub for advanced display manufacturing. With this investment, Paju will be established as a global production base for innovative OLED technologies, and LG Display will be able to build core facilities for mass production of next-generation OLED panels.

Gyeonggi Province expects that the investment from LG Display will not only secure production facilities, but also help acquire advanced technologies and significantly contribute to the ongoing Gyeonggi Northern Region Grand Remodeling Project.

Governor Kim Dongyeon stated, "This investment, which Gyeonggi Province has attracted, is significant in that it marks a turning point for the northern region to reestablish itself as a global hub for display manufacturing. We will actively support LG Display so that the investment can proceed swiftly, and we will continue efforts to attract additional investments for the industrial development of the northern region."

The Paju LCD cluster is a large industrial complex established in 2002 through an agreement between Gyeonggi Province and LG Philips LCD (the predecessor of LG Display). At that time, Gyeonggi Province worked with the central government to resolve location challenges caused by metropolitan area regulations, making the attraction of LG Display a representative success story. The Paju plant has since grown into the largest display manufacturing complex in Korea, producing TVs, laptops, and mobile displays. Gyeonggi Province plans to continue actively supporting investment attraction and business success in next-generation manufacturing sectors such as semiconductors, displays, and secondary batteries, including LG Display.
