Chosun University Hospital announced on June 18 that it held the kick-off meeting for the Honam region of the "2025 Infectious Disease Specialized Hospital-Centered Medical Response System Establishment Project."

The meeting took place on the afternoon of June 17 at the Hajonghyeon Hall of Chosun University Hospital. Attendees included members of the Honam regional working-level council (comprising 7 local governments and 35 medical institutions) and the Honam Regional Disease Response Center, which were organized through the 2024 project. The meeting was held to share the achievements of last year's project and to discuss the 2025 project plan and implementation direction.

Kim Dongmin, head of the Honam Regional Infectious Disease Specialized Hospital Promotion Team at Chosun University Hospital and professor of infectious diseases, stated, "The COVID-19 pandemic made it clear that infectious disease response is not an issue for a single institution but a shared task for the entire community." He requested, "In order for the Honam Regional Infectious Disease Specialized Hospital to serve as a practical control tower for emerging infectious diseases, local governments, medical institutions, academia, and the government must cooperate organically."

Through the 2024 project, Chosun University Hospital expanded the number of participating institutions in the working-level council from 15 to 34, achieving a 127% increase in council composition. The hospital also conducted a total of six infectious disease response training sessions, with 203 participants, recording a 102% completion rate.

In the specialized field of medical resource investigation, the hospital established an Information Strategy Plan (ISP) for the construction of a resource status management system, thereby laying a practical foundation.

The 2025 project will run for one year starting from May 26. This year, the Jeju region, which was operated separately last year, will be included, thereby strengthening the nationwide cooperation framework. The project will focus on strengthening the operation of the working-level council, enhancing infectious disease response education and training, and establishing specialized field models based on practical operational systems.

Yoon Nara, project manager and professor of infectious diseases at Chosun University Hospital, said, "This project goes beyond simple information sharing or cooperation. It is a process of building a truly functioning region-based infectious disease response system." She added, "If a tight network centered on the Honam regional working-level council is established, it will enable much faster and more effective medical responses in the event of an emerging infectious disease crisis."
