Another Accident During Drunk Driving Trial
Crime Revealed Under Police Questioning
A man in his twenties, who was already on trial for drunk driving, caused a hit-and-run accident while driving without a license and then tried to have his older brother pretend to be the driver, but was caught by the police.
The Gwangju Bukbu Police Station announced on the 18th that they had arrested Mr. A on charges including causing injury while fleeing the scene under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes. Mr. A is accused of driving a car without a license and crashing into a vehicle waiting at a traffic signal on a road in Unam-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju, at around 9:08 a.m. on April 6, then fleeing the scene.
According to the police investigation, immediately after the accident, Mr. A contacted his older brother and asked him to say that he was the driver instead. The brother went to the scene and pretended to be the driver. However, after persistent questioning by the police, it was revealed that Mr. A was the actual driver. The police believe that Mr. A committed this crime in an attempt to avoid being caught for driving without a license.
