The Jeonnam Provincial Council's Special Committee to Support the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo was launched on the 17th.
At the meeting held that day, Seo Daehyun (Democratic Party of Korea, Yeosu 2) was elected as the chairperson of the special committee, while Kim Hwashin (Democratic Party of Korea, Proportional Representation) was elected as vice chairperson.
The 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo is an international event aimed at sharing global island cultures, strengthening the competitiveness of islands both domestically and internationally, and enhancing the value of islands. It will be held in Jeonnam for the first time in the world.
This expo is expected to serve as another opportunity for Yeosu to make a leap forward as an international marine tourism city, following the 2012 Yeosu World Expo.
Seo Daehyun, chairperson of the committee, stated, "The 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo is a golden opportunity to promote Jeonnam's island culture to the international community," and added, "We will strive to ensure administrative and financial support through systematic legislative activities centered on the special committee."
The special committee consists of Seo Daehyun (Democratic Party of Korea, Yeosu 2), Lee Gwangil (Democratic Party of Korea, Yeosu 1), Lee Donghyun (Democratic Party of Korea, Boseong 2), Choi Byungyong (Democratic Party of Korea, Yeosu 5), Kang Jeongil (Democratic Party of Korea, Gwangyang 2), Han Chunok (Democratic Party of Korea, Suncheon 2), Park Seonjun (Democratic Party of Korea, Goheung 2), Joo Jongseop (Democratic Party of Korea, Yeosu 6), Kim Hwashin (Democratic Party of Korea, Proportional Representation), and Lim Hyeongseok (Democratic Party of Korea, Gwangyang 1). The committee will be active until December 4.
