Improving Residential Environments for the Elderly
Korea Housing Finance Corporation and University Student Volunteers Join Forces for 'Cool Roof' Project
The Korea Housing Finance Corporation (President Kim Kyunghwan) has rolled up its sleeves to engage in community social contribution activities aimed at improving residential environments vulnerable to heat waves.
On June 17, the corporation announced that it had painted heat-blocking paint on the rooftops of 21 households of elderly residents in vulnerable housing conditions through the 'Cool Roof' painting volunteer activity held in the Munhyeon-dong area of Nam-gu, Busan.
This initiative was carried out in cooperation with the Busan Volunteer Center, with employees of the corporation and members of the 'Korea Housing Finance Corporation University Student Volunteer Group' visiting the site and participating in the painting work together.
'Cool Roof' is an eco-friendly social contribution activity that helps elderly people, who are particularly vulnerable to extreme heat, spend a healthier summer by painting rooftops with white heat-reflective paint. This method lowers indoor temperatures by approximately 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.
A representative from the corporation stated, "We hope that this Cool Roof activity, though small, will provide practical help to the elderly. We will continue to carry out activities to improve the residential environment of vulnerable groups in the community together with the younger generation."
Since 2016, the Korea Housing Finance Corporation has operated a university student volunteer group and has continuously carried out various forms of residential welfare support projects, including the installation of anti-slip devices on common stairs of aging houses and the replacement of wallpaper and flooring.
