Chief of Staff Kang Hoonshik Visits National Assembly on June 17
Meets with Speaker Woo Wonshik to Discuss Cooperation on Supplementary Budget and Democratic Politics
Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoonshik met with National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonshik and stated, "I hope that the National Assembly and the administration will become bodies that alleviate the suffering of the people by passing the supplementary budget for people's livelihoods as soon as possible."
On June 17, in the Speaker's office at the main building of the National Assembly in Yeouido, Chief of Staff Kang met with Speaker Woo and said, "The legislative and executive branches must work closely together to truly ease the hardships faced by the people," conveying this message. He added, "I heard from Speaker Woo that restoring democratic politics is an important role of the Assembly, and we will ensure that the Office of the President and the government work together toward that goal."
Chief of Staff Kang emphasized, "Mr. Speaker, you are a symbol of overcoming crises," and continued, "In particular, by fulfilling your responsibilities stably during the process of lifting martial law, you laid the foundation for building a new Republic of Korea." He also said, "I express my deep respect and gratitude to you for calming public anxiety and protecting constitutional order."
Speaker Woo said, "Congratulations on your appointment as Chief of Staff to President Lee Jaemyung," and praised, "Although starting without a transition committee will bring many challenges, I have no doubt that a young, talented, and experienced Chief of Staff will navigate them well."
He added, "Restoring people's livelihoods and revitalizing the economy are the most important tasks," and said, "Having experienced all sorts of challenges as a member of the National Assembly, I believe that, with all this experience, you will resolve these difficult issues well as Chief of Staff." He went on to say, "Let us ensure close cooperation between the National Assembly and the government."
