Gwangju Office of Education Holds Institution Heads Meeting... Reaffirms Spirit of Independence Movement

Meeting, Memorial Service, and Hwajeong Cave Site Visit
at the Gwangju Student Independence Movement Memorial Hall

The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education held the "June Institution Heads Meeting" on June 17 in the meeting room of the Gwangju Student Independence Movement Memorial Hall, providing an opportunity for communication with senior officials from the main office, the heads of the Eastern and Western Education Support Offices, and the heads of affiliated organizations.

Gwangju Superintendent of Education Jeongseon Lee and executives visited the memorial room on the first floor of the Gwangju Student Independence Movement Memorial Hall after the "June Institution Heads Meeting" held in the meeting room on the 17th to honor and commemorate the spirits of the patriotic martyrs. This meeting is held on a rotating basis at different sites each month to strengthen cooperation and communication among institutions.

After the meeting, Superintendent Jeongseon Lee and the executive team visited the memorial room on the first floor of the hall to honor the patriotic martyrs, and also toured Hwajeong Cave, which was constructed for military use during the Japanese occupation. Hwajeong Cave, a remnant of the Japanese colonial era, is located on the hillside in front of the memorial hall and is planned to be used as a historical education space for students and citizens in connection with the future History Nuri Center.

Superintendent Lee stated, "A nation that forgets its history has no future," and added, "We will do our best to ensure that students remember the noble intentions of the independence activists and carry on the spirit of the Gwangju Student Independence Movement."
